(a) Modifications or alterations to assistive technology equipment shall meet the purpose of enabling a better use of the equipment, based on the needs and strengths of the user or potential user.
(b) The professional or professionals making such modifications or alterations may not charge for services rendered in altering or modifying the equipment.
(c) They shall require and request the authorization of the person with disabilities to modify the equipment.
(d) The modification or alteration of equipment cannot have the effect of substantially altering the purposes for which the same was created.
(e) The modification or alteration of equipment shall be carried out with the purpose of maximizing the use of the capabilities of the person with disabilities.
(f) The person who modifies or alters any equipment shall explain and offer basic training to the person with disabilities on the use, handling and care of the equipment thus created, altered or modified. Likewise, the former shall be responsible for establishing the specifications for maintenance of the equipment.
