Section Plc 806.02 - Ethical Standards Each individual who is subject to this chapter shall:
(a) Ensure that any commercial interests of the individual or the individual's employer are not permitted to override the independent exercise of professional judgment with regard to a patient, or to compromise the standard of care provided, or to affect their cooperation with other healthcare providers;(b) If an employer, refrain from exerting pressures on staff that may compromise patient welfare;(c) Provide each patient with information that is sufficient to allow the patient to make informed decisions about the patient's care;(d) If a patient's needs are beyond the scope or skills of the ophthalmic dispenser, advise the patient of this and refer the patient to a practitioner who has the necessary skills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience to address the patient's needs;(e) Engage in activities only in those areas in which the individual is trained and competent;(f) Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date clinical records;(g) Maintain appropriate privacy protections for all clinical records; and(h) Delegate tasks only to personnel who are appropriately qualified and competent to perform the assigned task.N.H.
