Section 885.703 - Soliciting Membership in Lodge of Unauthorized Fraternal Benefit Society; Criminal Penalty(a) A person commits an offense if the person solicits for or organizes a lodge of a fraternal benefit society without first obtaining from the commissioner a certificate of authority that entitles the society to engage in business in this state.(b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by: (1) a fine of not less than $100 or more than $250;(2) confinement in jail for not less than three months or more than six months; or(3) both a fine and confinement.Added by Acts 2001, 77th Leg., ch. 1419, Sec. 1, eff. 6/1/2003.
