Section 885.701 - False Statements; Criminal Penalty(a) A person commits an offense if the person wilfully makes a false or fraudulent statement or representation:(1) in or with reference to an application for membership in a fraternal benefit society authorized to engage in business in this state; or(2) for the purpose of obtaining money from or benefits in a fraternal benefit society transacting business under this chapter.(b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by: (1) a fine of not less than $100 or more than $500;(2) confinement in jail for not less than 30 days or more than one year; or(3) both the fine and confinement.Added by Acts 2001, 77th Leg., ch. 1419, Sec. 1, eff. 6/1/2003.
