Section 640 - Municipal police officers; compensation
(a) The compensation of police officers of municipalities shall be fixed by the governing body. The compensation shall not be determined by or include any fines, rebates of fines, or fees.
(b) In addition to the compensation fixed or determined in accordance with subsection (a) the municipality may pay a police officer a fixed amount or hourly compensation for appearances at hearings during off-duty hours or in court during off duty hours.
