§ 2113. Service of summons

It shall be incontrovertibly understood that the owner, captain or insurer of every vessel sailing in Puerto Rican waters, or entering one of its harbors, or which uses one of its docks, has given his consent to be served in any suit begun under the provisions of this chapter in which he is defendant, if not within Puerto Rico, through a substitute service through the Secretary of State of Puerto Rico or of the person appointed by him for such purpose, in accordance with Rule 4.7 of the Rules of Civil Procedure for the General Court of Justice of Puerto Rico, as amended by Act No. 105 of June 28, 1965. This section shall likewise apply to the insurer and to the agent of the owner of the vessel, to the insurer and to the agent of the ship’s captain, to the insurer of the owner’s agent or of the ship’s captain and to the owner of the ship’s cargo, or his agent and to the insurer of both or of the cargo.
