The weights and measures system commonly used in the United States of America and the decimal metric system shall be recognized and used in Puerto Rico for all commercial, industrial and agricultural purposes. In the measuring of land and in the documents related thereto there shall be used the unit known as “cuerda” which shall be understood as equivalent to 3,930.395625 square meters. The definitions of units of weights and measures and their respective equivalents published by the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C., shall be officially and legally recognized and shall govern weighing and measuring equipments in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
