§ 1024. Jurisdiction and competence

Friendly mediators, arbitrators, and conciliators shall intervene in controversies of a civil nature, which are of the competence of the Court of First Instance, San Juan Part and that are referred by:

(a) The Court of First Instance.

(b) The Civil Code or a special law specifically refers to a friendly mediator or arbitrator.

(c) The parties have voluntarily filed for his/her consideration civil and or mercantile matters on contracts, quasi-contracts, real rights on real or personal property, damages, excepting cases of medical malpractice.
