§ 3333. Objectives

In order to achieve the purposes of this chapter and make the best use of the resources to be invested, the Program shall meet the following objectives:

(a) Offer workshops and counseling services for the development [of] continu[ing] education programs for the personnel in charge of managing pediatric medical emergencies.

(b) Review and make recommendations concerning the educational requirements related to pediatric medical emergency programs involving the various disciplines.

(c) Develop and promote the adoption of regulations related to the medical equipment needed to handle pediatric medical emergencies in ambulances, hospitals, medical offices, and other dependencies that provide children’s services.

(d) Develop guidelines for the management of pediatric medical emergencies wherever they arise related to the stabilization and transportation of the sick or injured patient taking into account the requirements of those children with special needs.

(e) Serve as a medical educational information resource for the personnel working in the pediatric medical emergencies area.

(f) Promote the communication and interconnection among providers of medical emergency services for children.

(g) Provide information to the community concerning the prevention of injuries and emergency care.

(h) Promote programs for the establishment and development of pediatric rehabilitation centers that guarantee the return of their patients to the community.

(i) Develop guidelines for the proper selection of the personnel that will operate said centers to ensure that the children get the maximum opportunity for their physical, emotional and cognitive recovery after having suffered a severe illness or injury.

(j) Promote the establishment of a compulsory data register in cases of pediatric medical emergencies to be accessible to the various health services providers and public institutions or agencies that require said information, which shall be used exclusively for the purposes set forth in this chapter. The confidentiality of the information regarding said children shall be thoroughly guaranteed.

(k) Promote the creation of injury prevention and medical emergency services programs for children in the private sector.

(l) Promote the establishment of equal opportunities for access to, and the proper management of, the medical emergency services for children with special needs.

(m) Collaborate in the creation of a register of those children with special needs to be made available to the medical emergency services providers for the sole purpose of ensuring that they acquire the equipment and training needed for helping such children. The confidentiality of the information regarding said children shall be thoroughly guaranteed.
