For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms and phrases shall have the meaning stated below:
(a) Morbid obesity. — The excess of fat in the body as determined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) equal to or higher than 35.
(b) Bariatric surgery. — A surgical procedure to control obesity, which may be performed by employing any of four (4) techniques: gastric bypass, adjustable band, intragastric balloon or sleeve gastrectomy. The intragastric balloon surgery shall not be covered.
