§ 982c. Emergency alert

As soon as the Puerto Rico Police forwards the information, the media and the participating entities shall voluntarily agree to broadcast an emergency alert to the public in relation to cases of persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia who is missing.

After a distinctive sound tone, the alert must read: “This is a SILVER Missing Person Alert.” Alerts shall be broadcasted as soon and as often as possible, following the guidelines of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The Department of Transportation and Public Works shall place electronic signs in the public thoroughfares primarily destined for the issuing of these alerts.

The alerts shall include information on the description of the person, and the address of the place he/she was last seen. After the alert is broadcast, it shall be the duty of the Puerto Rico Police to update and provide the information available to the communications media, communications entities, and participating entities.

The alerts shall also provide specific information as to how the public may contact the authorities to offer information related to solving the case.

The alert may conclude at any time as requested by the Puerto Rico Police, regardless of whether the case has been solved.
