§ 2503. Board—Members

The Board shall be composed of seven (7) members, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The members of the Board shall be persons of recognized moral probity and good repute, who have not been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor which implies moral turpitude, over twenty-one (21) years of age who have been residents of Puerto Rico for not less than five (5) years prior to their appointment.

Five (5) of the members of the Board shall be duly licensed naturopaths of recognized professional competence, who have practiced naturopathy for a term not less than three (3) years, The remaining two (2) shall represent the public interest, one of which shall be a physician authorized to practice the profession in Puerto Rico. No member of the Board shall hold an office or academic or teaching position, nor have a pecuniary interest, be the owner of, stockholder, administrator or belong to the board of trustees or of directors of an institution that offers courses or studies in naturopathy.

In those cases in which a person appointed to the Board is holding office or an academic or teaching position, he/she may take leave without pay granted by the academic institution for the term of the appointment to meet this requirement.

Nevertheless, the five (5) naturopaths that initially compose the Board shall have been practicing naturopathy with an authorization issued pursuant to Act No. 239 of September 19, 1996. The Secretary of Health shall grant the license to these members initially appointed to compose the Board. The members appointed subsequently shall hold a license issued by the Board.
