Commercial fishing is hereby prohibited in the lakes and basins of Puerto Rico and the number of fish to be captured is limited to ten (10) for each calendar day of fishing. Any person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter or regulations created for its implementation, shall incur a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished with a fine of five hundred dollars ($500) or imprisonment for a period not to exceed six (6) months or both penalties at the discretion of the court, in addition to the regulatory penalties, except the cases of violations to the prohibition of commercial fishing in the lakes and basins of Puerto Rico, in which case the fine shall be of one thousand dollars ($1,000).
