§ 5170. Elderly Persons Month

(a) The month of May of each year is hereby declared as “Elderly Persons Month” to acknowledge the elderly for their sacrifice, efforts, hard work and contributions on behalf of our society.

(b) The Office of Elderly Affairs, in collaboration with the Department of Education, the Department of Health, the Gerontology Program of the Graduate School of Public Health of the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico and the Department of the Family, as well as other political organisms and entities and the municipalities of Puerto Rico, shall adopt the necessary measures for the achievement of the objectives of this section by means of organizing and holding activities to celebrate “Elderly Persons Month”.

(c) Not less than ten (10) days prior to the month of May of each year, the Governor shall issue a proclamation to convene the Puerto Rican people to participate in the celebrations set forth in this section.

(d) A copy of the annual proclamation shall be distributed to the mass communication media of the Island for its disclosure and publication.
