§ 5096. Troubadour’s Week

(a) The first week of October of each year is hereby declared in the Island as the “Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Week,” in order to commemorate and encourage the citizen participation in the activities held in recognition of the musical contributions of troubadours, especially during such week. It is hereby declared and established that the first Saturday of October of each year shall be known as the “Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Day”.

(b) The Governor of Puerto Rico shall encourage the Puerto Rican people each year, through a proclamation to such effect, to demonstrate their admiration and support, and to pay this well-deserved homage to Puerto Rican male and female troubadours by organizing and sponsoring the activities pertinent to this declaration and commemoration during the first week of October, which shall be ‘Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Week,’ and on the first Saturday of October, which shall be ‘Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Day,’ so as to recognize the artistic, historical, and cultural contribution of male and female troubadours in Puerto Rico, and to promote this artistic activity.

(c) The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, the Corporation of Puerto Rico for Public Broadcasting, the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center, and public bodies and entities and municipalities in Puerto Rico shall adopt the necessary measures to achieve the objectives of this section by organizing and holding activities to commemorate and promote this artistic manifestation during Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Week, and Puerto Rican Male and Female Troubadour Day. Said festivities shall be held through activities such as, but not limited to improvisation, interpretation, and composition contests; concerts; conferences; exhibits, etc. The participation of citizens and private entities in these activities shall be likewise promoted.
