§ 5026. Week of the Puerto Rican Danza

(a) The Week of the Puerto Rican Danza is hereby established, which shall be proclaimed annually by the Governor of Puerto Rico and be held on the week which coincides with the birthday of Juan Morell Campos.

(b) The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, the Department of Education and the Conservatory of Music are hereby authorized, on the occasion of the Week of the Puerto Rican Danza, and in order to make known and divulge this form of musical expression, to hold lectures, conferences, expositions, interpretation and musical composition contests, publication of literature, musical scores, recordings and posters on the same theme, and hold any other activity which leads to the compliance of the purposes of this section.

(c) The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture is hereby authorized to organize an Annual Competition for the Composition of Danzas. A first prize of one thousand dollars ($1,000), a second prize of five hundred dollars ($500) and a third prize of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250) shall be awarded.

(d) The sum of five thousand dollars ($5,000) is hereby appropriated from unencumbered funds in the Commonwealth Treasury to the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture to carry out the purposes of this section during fiscal year 1972-73. For subsequent years the funds necessary for the holding of the Week of the Puerto Rican Danza shall be consigned in the General Budget of Expenses of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
