§ 5077. Selective Service

A box shall be included in the application and renewal forms for identification cards and driver’s licenses to such effect any person subject to the provisions of the Selective System Act, in accordance with 50 U.S.C. App 451, et seq., may opt to register with the Selective Service, as required. Said box shall be accompanied by a brief statement about the requirement of the Law, a quotation of the Act, and the consequences for failing to meet the same. Any person who is required to register pursuant to the Selective Service Act and opts-out from registration shall leave the box unchecked. Applicants who are between sixteen (16) and seventeen (17) years of age may opt to register with the Selective Service System once they are eighteen (18) years of age, as long as they have authorization from the adult called upon to consent in the identification card or driver’s license application form. Failure to register with the Selective Service shall not prevent the Government of Puerto Rico from issuing the identification card or driver’s license as appropriate.
