§ 3051. Definitions

The following terms shall have the meaning stated below:

(a) Manufacturer. — Means the person who owns, manages, or is in charge of an establishment engaged in the production of agricultural and livestock animal products and byproducts.

(b) Industry. — Means each of the specific agricultural and livestock activities.

(c) Surplus. — Means production in excess of the agricultural and livestock market needs which can be used to manufacture byproducts among other uses.

(d) Agriculture and livestock industries. — Means all the agriculture and livestock industries currently in production in Puerto Rico, as well as any other that emerges in the future.

(e) Intermediary. — Means the person who owns, manages, or is in charge of marketing agriculture and livestock industry produce in one or several phases of the marketing process.

(f) Office. — Means the Puerto Rico Agriculture and Livestock Industry Regulating Office.

(g) Regulating officer. — Means the official designated by the Secretary of Agriculture to develop the regulation of the agriculture and livestock industries.

(h) Person. — Means any individual, corporation, association, cooperative, partnership, or any other type of organization permitted by law.

(i) Producer. — Means a person who owns, manages, leases, or is in charge of a farm devoted to agriculture and livestock production for commercial purposes.

(j) Secretary. — Means the Secretary of Agriculture of Puerto Rico.

(k) Sector. — Means the group of persons engaged in a similar activity within an agriculture and livestock industry, such as coffee growers, processors and exploiters.
