§ 4580. Definition

Housing cooperatives are those devoted to the administration, purchase, construction, sale, lease, and to any other activity related to housing and community living. Their purpose is to provide adequate housing for low and moderate income families, to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for the community, to educate members of the cooperative and residents of the community with respect to the principles of self-management, responsibility and community living; and to further this type of alternative housing cooperative to increase effectiveness in the achievement of these goals. It is in the interests of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to provide for the protection and development of this type of housing.
