§ 1063. Sale of orthopedic and prosthetic appliances; fund

(a) The Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the Department of the Family is hereby authorized to sell orthopedic and prosthetic equipment manufactured in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratories of the Vocational Rehabilitation Program. The sale of said equipment shall not be limited to vocational rehabilitation cases.

(b) The Vocational Rehabilitation Program of the Department of the Family is hereby empowered to provide orthopedic and prosthetic equipment manufactured in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratories of the Vocational Rehabilitation Program free of charge or at the lowest possible cost to low-income disabled persons. Children, youths, adults and the aged shall be included in the benefits of this section.

(c) The Vocational Rehabilitation Program of the Department of the Family is hereby authorized to purchase orthopedic and prosthetic equipment that cannot be manufactured in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratories of the Rehabilitation Program in those cases in which the acquisition of said equipment for the disabled is truly necessary.

(d) The sums received on account of the sale of orthopedic and prosthetic apparatus authorized in subsection (a) of this section shall be covered into a special fund that shall be known as the “Orthopedic Laboratory Fund” which shall be placed at the service of the Department of the Family for the purchase of materials, tools and equipment needed for the manufacture of said orthopedic and prosthetic devices, and for the purchase of orthopedic and prosthetic equipment which cannot be manufactured in the Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratories of the Rehabilitation Program.
