§ 948. Historical Archive—Certified copies of documents

The Director of the Archive is hereby authorized to issue and certify copies of the documents in the Archive to such persons as may apply for the same, and these certificates, which shall bear the seal of the archive, shall be admitted in evidence in the courts of justice as in the case of original documents. Copies and certificates of documents requested by competent authorities for official purposes exclusively shall be issued free of cost, but applications made by private parties shall be issued upon payment of the fees prescribed by law, payable in internal revenue stamps to be affixed to said copies and certificates. A register shall be kept of all copies and certificates issued, showing the name of the applicant, the date of issue and whether or not fees were charged.
