Rule 80.5 - Adoption Proceeding(a) The procedure for adoptions in Vermont is specified in 15A V.S.A. and in the probate forms as adopted by the Vermont Supreme Court. The procedures for relinquishments to adoption agencies and consents to private adopting parties are set forth in 15A V.S.A. §§ 2-101 through 2-409 and in forms 126 through 128 and form 139G. The general adoption procedures are set forth in 15A V.S.A. Article 3 and in forms 126, 127, and 131 through 139G. The stepparent adoption procedures are set forth in 15A V.S.A. §§ 4-101 through 4-113 and in forms 126, 127, 131B, 135, 139, 139A, 139B and 139G. The procedures for other types of adoptions, such as adult adoptions and so-called "partner adoptions," are set forth in 15A V.S.A. and in other forms. (b) The Vermont Rules of Probate Procedure apply to adoption proceedings unless a different procedure is specified in 15A V.S.A.
