Section 296-104-510 - Repairs - When a lap seam crack is discovered along a riveted longitudinal joint on a boiler or unfired pressure vessel, what action is required and what repairs are allowed?

A "lap seam crack" is a crack found in a riveted lap seam, extending parallel to the longitudinal joint and located either between or adjacent to rivet holes. Repairs to a "lap seam crack" on a shell or drum of any boiler or unfired pressure vessel is not allowed. The shell or drum of any boiler or unfired pressure vessel in which a lap seam crack is discovered shall be immediately discontinued from use.
