Section 20:10:39:43 - Conducting the secondary neutral voltage drop test

The secondary neutral voltage drop test is performed for all service entrances. A proxy load of known characteristics (such as a resistive load like a 120 volt, 1,500 watt hairdryer) is required for this test. The proxy load must create a known and stable current and subsequent voltage drop for each neutral serving a main panel, sub-panel, or end-of-service area. All service entrances other than the service entrance being tested are turned off to perform this test.
