Section 14-10.14 - Checking safety valve capacity(a) Safety-valve capacity may be checked in any one of three different ways: (1) By making an accumulation test, that is, by shutting off all other steam-discharge outlets from the boiler and forcing the fires to the maximum. The safety-valve equipment shall be sufficient to prevent an excess pressure beyond that specified in section 14-9.9 of this Part.(2) By measuring the maximum amount of fuel that can be burned and computing the corresponding evaporative capacity upon the basis of the heating value of the fuel.(3) By determining the maximum evaporative capacity by measuring the feedwater. The sum of the safety-valve capacities shall be equal to or greater than the maximum evaporative capacity of the boiler.(b) If the safety valve capacity is found sufficient, additional capacity need not be provided.N.Y.
