Section 10A:72-12.4 - Victim interest cases

(a) The Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision (Compact) requires that the receiving state notify the sending state when an offender being supervised under the Compact is issued a travel permit and the offender's case is deemed to have victim interest.

(b) Upon receipt of a travel permit in the case of a New Jersey offender being supervised in an out-of-State jurisdiction and the case is one with victim interest, the assigned parole officer in the Office of Interstate Services shall notify appropriate Board staff that the offender will be returning to the State of New Jersey on an approved travel permit; notify appropriate Board staff as to the reason for travel; and notify appropriate Board staff as to the destination of the offender while within the State of New Jersey. The appropriate Board staff shall provide notification to the victim of the offender receiving travel permission to return to the State of New Jersey.

(c) An Assistant District Parole Supervisor, District Parole Supervisor, or Supervising Parole Officer may approve a travel permit for any offender being supervised by the Division of Parole on behalf of an out-of-State jurisdiction under the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision. If the case is deemed to have victim interest, the parole officer shall provide a copy of the travel permit by electronic transmission to the Office of Interstate Services with notification that the case involves victim interest. Upon receipt of the travel permit and notification of victim interest, the Office of Interstate Services shall notify the sending jurisdiction's interstate office of the approval of the travel permit and shall provide a copy of the travel permit to the sending jurisdiction's interstate office.
