Section 312 IAC 29-2-137 - "Well stimulation" defined

Authority: IC 14-10-2-4; IC 14-37-3

Affected: IC 14-37

Sec. 137.

"Well stimulation" means a treatment performed to restore or enhance the productivity of a well. Stimulation treatments consist of two (2) main groups as follows:

(1) Hydraulic fracturing treatments are performed above the fracture pressure of the reservoir formation to create a highly conductive flow path between the reservoir and the well bore.
(2) Matrix treatments are performed below the reservoir fracture pressure to restore the natural permeability of the reservoir following changes such as mineral precipitate buildup in the near-well bore area. An acid well stimulation treatment would be considered a matrix treatment.
