In computing any period of time prescribed or allowed by these or other applicable rules or by order of the department, the day of the act, event or default after which the designated period of time begins to run shall not be included. The last day of the period so computed shall be included unless it is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, in which event the period runs until the-next day which-is not a Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday. Intermediate Saturdays, Sundays and holidays shall be excluded in the computation when the period of time prescribed or allowed is seven days or less As used in this section, "holiday" includes any day designated as such pursuant to section 8-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes.
