All Senior Police Officer appointments shall be for a term of thirteen (13) months, renewable for subsequent terms upon 60 days notice; provided that no term or extended term shall continue beyond October 1, 1997.
Senior Police Officers shall serve a probationary period of six months or the equivalent, e.g., part-time employees will receive credit only for actual time worked.
Previous seniority and newly accrued seniority shall be considered when choice of assignments is between Senior Police Officers, but shall be of no weight as against permanent members of the force.
Senior Police Officers hired on a part-time temporary status shall have no seniority rights except as against fellow part-time Senior Police Officers able to work the same hours and are equally qualified.
Prior service shall be counted for purposes of determining rate of accrual of sick leave or annual leave.
All assignments of Senior Police Officers are at the full discretion of the Chief of Police in keeping with the purpose and intent of the Redeployment Act.
The first priority to be observed in the assignment of Senior Police Officers is for field (patrol service) and to assist in the training and mentoring of new officers.
When a critical need has been determined by the Chief of Police, Senior Police Officers may be assigned to technical or special skill positions in accordance with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Part-time employment is defined, for the purposes of these rules, as the availability of an employee to work an established work week of either a minimum of three 8-hour shifts (24 hours total) or a minimum of five 4-hour shifts (20 hours total).
Senior Police Officers working as part-time employees shall accrue sick leave or annual leave on a pro-rata basis.
Senior Police Officers shall not be entitled to promotions or step increases.
Senior Police Officers shall be subject to such training as deemed necessary by the Chief of Police to prepare them for appropriate duties and functions in keeping with the purpose and intent of the Redeployment Act and these rules.
Senior Police Officers shall be subject to the same disciplinary standards as other members of the force.
Senior Police Officers shall not be detailed to any agency of the District of Columbia government other than the Metropolitan Police Department.
