Rule 19-3409 - SICK LEAVE
3409.1

Full-time permanent employees shall earn sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per every 2 weeks. All permanent employees begin to accrue sick leave starting with the first day of employment. A full-time permanent employee earns no more than 104 hours of sick leave per year, provided the employee is not on leave without pay in excess of 80 hours during the year.

3409.2

Part-time permanent employees earn sick leave at the same rate as full-time employees; however, the amount earned shall be prorated to correspond with the actual number of hours worked.

3409.3

An employee may only use sick leave for personal illness. Employees who use all of their accrued sick leave and annual leave shall be placed on leave-of-absence- without-pay-status for the duration of the illness provided that advanced leave has not been approved as provided in section 3411.1.

3409.4

An employee may accumulate an unlimited number of carry over sick leave. Accrued sick leave shall not be paid to an employee upon termination of employment. However, employee shall have the option to convert accrued sick leave to add to years of service upon retirement.
