Rule 12-E501 - GENERAL

Insert new Section 501.3.1.2 in the Mechanical Code to read as follows:

501.3.1.2

Garage exhaust termination.Exhaust air from garage exhaust systems or outlets shall not be directed onto walkways. The termination point of private parking garage mechanical exhaust systems and outlets shall comply with the requirements for environmental air exhaust in Section 501.3.1, item 3, of the Mechanical Code. The termination point of public parking garage mechanical exhaust systems and outlets shall be located not less than 20 feet (6096 mm) from doors, operable windows and air intake openings into any building. The bottom of exhaust openings serving public garages shall be located not less than 15 feet (4572 mm) above streets, alleys and other walkways.

Exception: When exhaust air is directed upwards, the code official is authorized to approve garage exhaust openings less than 15 feet (4572 mm) above streets, alleys and other walkways.
