Section 1370 - Reimbursement of States and localities for emergency ambulance services

Subject to the availability of appropriations, the Attorney General shall fully reimburse States and political subdivisions of States for costs incurred by such a State or subdivision for emergency ambulance services provided to any alien who-

(1) is injured while crossing a land or sea border of the United States without inspection or at any time or place other than as designated by the Attorney General; and

(2) is under the custody of the State or subdivision pursuant to a transfer, request, or other action by a Federal authority.

Attorney General: The term "Attorney General" means the Attorney General of the United States.
Service: The term "Service" means the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Department of Justice.
State: The term "State" includes the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands of the United States, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
alien: The term "alien" means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.
naturalization: The term "naturalization" means the conferring of nationality of a state upon a person after birth, by any means whatsoever.
