Section 2404 - Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs
(a) In general

There is in the Administration a Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs, who is appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate.

(b) Duties

Subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Administrator, the Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs shall perform such duties and exercise such powers as the Administrator may prescribe, including the following:

(1) Maintaining and enhancing the safety, reliability, and performance of the United States nuclear weapons stockpile, including the ability to design, produce, and test, in order to meet national security requirements.
(2) Directing, managing, and overseeing the nuclear weapons production facilities and the national security laboratories.

national security laboratory
The term "national security laboratory" means any of the following:(A) Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico.(B) Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Livermore, California.(C) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, California.
nuclear weapons production facility
The term "nuclear weapons production facility" means any of the following:(A) The Kansas City National Security Campus, Kansas City, Missouri.(B) The Pantex Plant, Amarillo, Texas.(C) The Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.(D) The Savannah River Site, Aiken, South Carolina.(E) The Nevada National Security Site, Nevada.(F) Any facility of the Department of Energy that the Secretary of Energy, in consultation with the Administrator and Congress, determines to be consistent with the mission of the Administration.
