Section 242.603 - Storage and Disposal of Medications(a) An institution shall store medications under appropriate conditions of sanitation, temperature, light, moisture, ventilation, segregation, and security.(b) The institution shall properly dispose of:(1) any medication that is discontinued or outdated, except as provided by Subsection (c); and(2) any medication in a container with a worn or illegible label or missing a label.(c) A discontinued medication that has not been destroyed must be reinstated if reordered.(d) An institution shall release the medications of a resident who is transferred directly to another institution or who is discharged to home to the new institution or to the resident or resident's next of kin or guardian, as appropriate. The institution may release a medication to a resident only on the written or verbal authorization of the attending physician.Tex. Health and Safety Code § 242.603
