Section 67-1-504 - Vacancies(a) In cases of vacancies, the county legislative body, at its first session after the vacancy occurs shall elect an assessor who shall hold office until the September 1 following the next regular August election.(b) The assessor shall be elected by the qualified voters at the first regular August election coming after the vacancy, and shall hold office from the following September 1 to the close of the term for which the predecessor was elected.(c) If the office of the assessor becomes vacant due to death, resignation or removal, the duties of the assessor shall be temporarily discharged by the chief deputy, or deputy designated as temporary successor by the assessor of property in writing, until a successor assessor is elected or appointed and qualified according to law.Acts 1973, ch. 226, § 3; 1978, ch. 934, § 26; impl. am.
