Tenn. Code § 63-22-104

Section 63-22-104 - [Effective 7/1/2024] Professional counselors - Fees - Qualifications

An applicant for licensure as a professional counselor shall pay the board a nonrefundable fee as set by the board and shall satisfy the board that the applicant:

(1) Is at least eighteen (18) years of age;
(2) Is of good moral character;
(3)
(A) Has a conferred graduate degree in counseling or a closely related field;
(B) Has obtained a total of sixty (60) graduate hours in counseling or a closely related field; and
(C) Has completed a supervised field experience as either a practicum or internship;
(4) Has had at least two (2) years of professional experience of a type judged to be acceptable by the board subsequent to being granted a graduate degree and has not violated § 63-22-110;
(5) Has passed the examination offered by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) or such other examination approved by the board;
(6) Has passed the Tennessee jurisprudence exam; and
(7) Has met any additional criteria of the board established by rule.
