Tenn. Code § 56-7-NEW

(a) As used in this section:
(1) "Electronic insurance card" means a digital or electronic representation of a covered individual's insurance information issued by a health insurance entity, including the policy holder's name, policy number, coverage dates and other relative policy information;
(2) "Health insurance entity" means an entity subject to the insurance laws of this state, or subject to the jurisdiction of the commissioner, that contracts or offers to contract to provide health insurance coverage, including, but not limited to, an insurance company, a health maintenance organization, and a nonprofit hospital and medical service corporation; and
(3) "Healthcare provider" means a physician, hospital, or other person licensed, accredited, or certified to perform specified healthcare services pursuant to title 63, chapter 6 or 9, or title 68.
(b) A healthcare provider shall accept an electronic insurance card as valid evidence of an individual's health insurance plan, policy, or contract.
