Section 55-50-354 - Language or symbol on driver license or photo identification card reflecting military service
(a) When the department issues or renews a driver license or photo identification card to an honorably discharged veteran, the driver license or photo identification card shall have language or a symbol designed by the department of veterans services, in consultation with the department of safety, that appropriately reflects the driver's military service. The language or symbol shall be displayed prominently on the license.
(b) Tennessee veterans who elect to have language or a symbol indicating their military service on their driver license at the time of renewal or reissue shall pay the required license or photo identification card fee, check a box on the application stating they are a veteran, and provide a certified copy of:
(1) The applicant's certificate of release or discharge, department of defense form 214 (DD 214), showing dates of service and that the applicant received an honorable discharge;
(2) The applicant's department of defense form DD form 2 (Retired) identification;
(3) The applicant's AGO Form 53-55 or NAVPERS 553 showing the dates of service; or
(4) The applicant's official NAVPERS-660 form, showing proof of honorable discharge.
