Section 56101 - Oath and bond of controller(a) The township controller, if the office has been created, shall, before entering upon the duties of office, take the required oath or affirmation of office under 53 Pa.C.S. § 1141 (relating to form of oaths of office).(b) Pursuant to section 602, the controller shall give bond to the township, with a surety company or other company authorized by law to act as surety, to be approved by the board of commissioners, in a sum as the board of commissioners may direct by ordinance, conditioned for the faithful discharge of the controller's duties. The amount of the bond shall be sufficient to adequately protect the township from any illegal or unfaithful action by the controller. The cost of the bond shall be paid by the township.(c) In lieu of the bond required for the faithful performance by the township controller of official duties, the board of commissioners may purchase insurance as provided in section 602(b).1931, June 24, P.L. 1206, art.
