The department of parks and recreation shall be under the charge of a director who shall be the head thereof. The supervision, equipping, operation, care and maintenance of parks, zoological gardens, conservatories, greenhouses, forestry, playgrounds, play-fields, gymnasiums, public baths, swimming pools, and indoor recreation centers and the supervision of playleaders, recreation directors, supervisors, superintendents and any other officers or employes deemed proper for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this act, shall be under the jurisdiction of this department.
