Section 22701 - Director head of department; powers and duties of department

The Department of Public Health shall be under the charge of a director, who shall be the head thereof. To this department shall be committed the care, management, administration, and supervision of all matters relating to the public health and sanitation, including hospitals for the treatment of contagious diseases. All the powers and duties of the Bureau of Health, as set forth in an act entitled "An act creating a Bureau of Health in the Department of Public Safety, in cities of the second class; defining the powers and duties thereof and of the officers thereunder; prescribing rules and regulations and laws respecting the public health; and authorizing and imposing fines, penalties, and punishments for violations thereof," approved the twenty-sixth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, shall be transferred to and hereafter be exercised by this department, as well as all other laws heretofore enacted relating to the Bureau of Health in such cities.
