The said ordinances may provide proper penalties not exceeding fines of five hundred dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment not exceeding thirty days for violation of the provisions thereof. The fines may be increased within the limit of five hundred dollars ($500.00) each for second or subsequent violations by the same person, firm or corporation. The said ordinances may provide that each calendar day of violation shall constitute a separate offense.
