In recognition of "Earth Day," which was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, and has since been celebrated annually by people from around the world to demonstrate a collective concern for the environment, April 22 of each year is hereby designated "Earth Day" in Pennsylvania. The Governor is authorized and directed to issue a proclamation each year calling upon the citizens of this Commonwealth to participate in events and activities to help protect and improve the environmental quality of Pennsylvania and the planet.
