Section 991.2501 - Definitions

The following words and phrases when used in this article shall have the meanings given to them in this section unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:

"Community health reinvestment activity." Community health services and projects that improve health care or make health care more accessible. The term includes funding, subsidization or provision of the following:

(1) Health care coverage for persons who are determined by recognized standards as determined by the Insurance Department to be unable to pay for coverage.
(2) Health care services for persons who are determined by recognized standards to be uninsured and unable to pay for services.
(3) Programs for the prevention and treatment of disease or injury, including mental retardation, mental disorders, mental health counseling or the promotion of health or wellness. The term shall not include expenditures for advertising, public relations, sponsorships, bad debt, administrative costs associated with State health care programs, programs provided as an employee benefit, use of facilities for meetings held by community groups or expenses for in-service training, continuing education, orientation or mentoring of employees.

"Department." The Insurance Department of the Commonwealth.

"Plan." A hospital plan corporation as defined in 40 Pa.C.S. Ch. 61 (relating to hospital plan corporations) or professional health services plan corporation as defined in 40 Pa.C.S. Ch. 63 (relating to professional health services plan corporations).
