Section 5250 - Creation of county transit and traffic commission

There is hereby created a County Transit and Traffic Commission consisting of nine persons who shall be residents of the county, not more than four of whom shall be residents of cities in the county, nor shall more than two be regular employes of any publicly financed body. Members shall be persons experienced in either engineering, commerce, finance, law, transportation or traffic matters, and shall be appointed by the county commissioners. The successors to the members in office when this act becomes effective shall be appointed, at the expiration of their respective terms, to serve six years, and all appointments to fill vacancies shall be only for the unexpired portion of the term. Five members shall constitute a quorum. The commission may make rules and regulations for their own organization and procedure consistent with the resolutions of the county commissioners and the laws of the Commonwealth. Members shall serve without compensation, and may employ a technical staff and such other persons as may be necessary, whose salaries and wages, together with other necessary expenses of the commission, shall be provided for, in the discretion of the county commissioners, by proper appropriation and resolution.
