Section 181A.510 - Certification for certain purposes of individuals employed by tribal government to perform duties of public safety officer
(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an individual who is employed full time by a tribal government to perform the duties of a public safety officer and who possesses the requisite qualifications may be certified or recertified as a police officer, certified reserve officer, corrections officer, parole and probation officer, fire service professional, telecommunicator or emergency medical dispatcher if the individual and the tribal government comply with the applicable provisions of ORS 181A.355 to 181A.689.
(2) An individual who is certified under subsection (1) of this section is considered to be employed as a full-time public safety officer in the discipline in which the certification is held for the following purposes:
(a) Denying, suspending or revoking certification under ORS 181A.630, 181A.640 and 181A.650;
(b) Determining eligibility to apply for benefits from the Public Safety Memorial Fund under ORS 243.954 to 243.974; and
(c) Determining eligibility to be honored at the memorial created pursuant to section 1, chapter 508, Oregon Laws 1987.
