Section 2280 - State trails system - Uniform marker - Planning and designationA. There is hereby created a state trails system composed of:1. State nature trails, which shall be trails designed to deepen the public's awareness and understanding of various ecological, geological or cultural qualities within the state by means of an interpretive service program;2. State hiking trails, which shall be extensive trails and will serve to connect parks, scenic areas, historical points and neighboring communities;3. State special-use trails, which shall be trails designed to provide for those trail activities which require special trail definition and will include trails for bicycling, public riding and motorcycle and minibike activities, as well as trails designed to meet the needs of the handicapped, the blind and the elderly; and4. State heritage trails, which shall be trails designed to promote the identification and interpretation of significant cultural and historic sites throughout the state.B. The Commission, in accordance with appropriate federal, state and local governmental organizations, shall establish a uniform marker for the trails system.C. In the planning and designation of trails, the Commission shall give due regard to the interest of federal or state agencies, all political subdivisions, private land owners, interested individuals and citizen groups. Furthermore, the Commission encourages citizen participation in trail acquisition, construction, development and maintenance where such activities will not conflict with the purposes of the Oklahoma Trails System Act.Okla.
