Oklahoma Code Comment

(1) 12 Okl.St.Ann. § 2, and 25 Okl.St.Ann. § 29 also provide for liberal construction of statutes.

The provision herein on damages is substantially the same as 23 Okl.St.Ann. § 1, reading: "As a general rule, compensation is the relief or remedy provided by the law of this State for the violation of private rights, and the means of securing their observance; and specific and preventive relief may be given in no other cases than those specified herein." See also 23 Okl.St.Ann. §§ 2, 3 and 95, and see 23 Okl.St.Ann. § 9 on exemplary damages. Also see Oklahoma Damage Symposium, 6 Okl.Law Rev. 291.

(2) This is in accord with the spirit of Art. II, § 6 of the Oklahoma Constitution which provides that there shall be a remedy afforded for every wrong.
