Section 197.04 - Commission membership(A) The Holocaust and genocide memorial and education commission shall consist of fifteen members as follows:(1) Two members shall be members of the house of representatives appointed by the governor after consultation with the speaker of the house of representatives, with one member being from the majority party and one member being from the minority party, to serve a term of the remainder of the general assembly during which the representative is appointed.(2) Two members shall be members of the senate appointed by the governor after consultation with the president of the senate, with one member being from the majority party and one member being from the minority party, to serve a term of the remainder of the general assembly during which the senator is appointed.(3) Three nonvoting ex officio members, to serve until the ex officio member ceases to hold the applicable office:(a) The director of education and workforce;(b) The chancellor of higher education;(c) The director of veterans services.(4) Eight members shall be appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate, to serve a term of three years, as follows: (a) At least three members shall be involved in Holocaust and genocide memorial and education or have a personal connection or experience with the Holocaust or genocide.(b) At least three members shall have expertise regarding the Holocaust and investigation, analysis, or research regarding genocide.(B) Vacancies shall be filled in the manner provided under division (A) of this section. Any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term for which the member's predecessor was appointed shall hold office for the remainder of that term. Any appointed member shall continue in office subsequent to the expiration of that member's term until the member's successor takes office or until a period of sixty days has elapsed, whichever occurs first.Amended by 135th General Assembly, HB 33,§130.100, eff. 10/3/2023.Added by 133rd General Assembly, SB 310,§1, eff. 12/29/2020.
