Section 58:10B-24 - Duties of Department of Environmental ProtectionThe Department of Environmental Protection shall:
(1) Prepare materials for dissemination to the public that explain the environmental and health risks associated with site remediations in general and which are designed to assist local governments and the public in assessing the risks associated with particular site remediation projects;(2) Serve as an informational resource for county improvement authorities who are involved in remediating and redeveloping contaminated redevelopment areas and for municipalities and residents of this State who may be impacted by the remediation or redevelopment of contaminated real property regardless of who is undertaking the remediation or redevelopment;(3) Work with residents and municipalities to form neighborhood informational groups whose purpose is to research, understand and disseminate information in neighborhoods concerning the public health and environmental risks associated with site remediations and redevelopment, as well as the economic benefits to be gained; and(4) Make recommendations to the Legislature and the Governor in order to improve the public understanding, perception and risk associated with site remediations in the State.
